Yoga Mat by Nike

Michael Jordan sold Nike basketball sneakers because of his celebrity status as an athlete. Nike's yoga mat unfortunately, does not have the same advantage, as yoga lacks an attached star. The closest is Madonna, but the marketing would have to change as there would be something slightly disconcerting about Madonna ordering people to "Just do it!"

Nike is one of the leading sports apparel retailers, with flagship stores in major cities across the United States. While not as well-known as its foot apparel, Nike's yoga mat is a highly recommended product for the yoga-enthusiast.

Nike Gets It Right with Its Yoga Mat

While some may pause at the idea of Nike producing a yoga mat, the same, high quality assurance that comes from the company's basketball-related products applies to the yoga mat. Thinner than most mats, it's easier to roll up and carry - though, if you need extra cushioning because of more-intense workouts, than another mat is suggested, as Nike's yoga mat is markedly thinner than others.

The material is made from closed-cell foam, which provides more traction than other yoga mats - most notable the sticky mats. The traction feature is especially important when working on the mat, and you're in a complicated position. Sweaty feet can slip on your yoga mat - this is especially true if you practice Bikram yoga, where the room is heated to over 100 degrees. The other attractive feature of Nike's yoga mat is the centerline stitching which allows for you to better align your feet when getting into a position.

Also, keeping in with Nike's sleek image, the yoga mat, being thinner, also carries better - there's a carrying strap for better transport. Moving a yoga mat has to be convenient and easy and Nike has the city dweller in mind, when marketing this mat, because the thinness and easy mobility of the mat makes it ideal for when you're taking the subway or a cab, or just walking down the city streets to your yoga class.

The retail price for Nike's yoga mat is $30. Admittedly, it's a little pricey for a mat and you are paying for the Nike name brand along with the mat, but you're also paying for a good quality mat. There are also options such as Ebay or online sports apparel stores that might be able to offer this mat for a lower price. Even at the retail price of $30, the mat is a good buy because of its svelte look, the centered stitching and the non-slip surface.
